Bayern Munich have confirmed they have triggered a clause in Kingsley Coman’s loan deal to sign the France whizkid. He will join on an initial three-year deal after impressing while on a two-season loan from Juventus. Surely Juventus will somewhat regret letting a player of this calibre slip through their fingers.
He was a player languishing in Juventus’ reserve side and was struggling to really make a breakthrough with the Turin based side. But Juventus’ excess is Bayern’s treasure as they obviously saw something special in Coman. The French international was bought to the club by current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “He is a player with huge potential. “We’re convinced that he will be of great help to us in the coming years.”
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed in November that he wanted to sign Coman, 20, on his £17.7million option. But talks reportedly stalled in recent weeks to alert several of Europe’s top clubs and raise the possibility of a return to Juve. Bayern, however, managed to convince the pacey youngster to remain in the Bundesliga and a move back to Italy has subsequently been ruled out with the news that has broken today.
In his first season in Germany, Coman won the league title and DFB Pokal while making the Champions League semi-finals. He scored 4 goals in his debut Bundesliga season, that came after making 23 appearances. This season he has not quite hit the same goal tally with only 2 goals to this name but the caveat being that he has made only 17 appearances this time around. Of course the German season has not quite finished and there is still a chance for him to match the output of last season.
Last summer, he confirmed: “I would like to stay. When I arrived, it was my intention to stay for a longer period. “Bayern Munich are one of the best teams in the world and I want to play here for many, many years.” and he looks set to light up the Bundesliga and European Football for years to come.
