17 Champions League Second Qualifying Round 1st Leg ties are scheduled for this week and 16 are now a mere footnote in history after the action that took place on Tuesday and Wednesday. 12 ties took place on Wednesday with one remaining on Friday night as Linfield play host to Brendan Rodgers’ Glasgow Celtic. The pick of matches would have been Dundalk’s draw with Rosenborg at Oriel Park. The League Of Ireland side took the lead on 18 minutes when David McMillan nodded home from close range after steering an errand shot towards goal and eventually into the net.

But Rosenborg have the all important away goal going into the return leg next week and Tore Reginiussen was the man who silenced the Dundalk crowd just before the break and his equaliser means the contest is very neatly poised for when the two teams meet again in Norway.

Below is the pick of the action

And other talking points across Europe on Wednesday include lowest ranked side Zalgiris Vilinus of Lithuania beating Ludogorets of Bulgaria by 2 goals to 1 and Copenhagen of Denmark beating MSK Zilina of Slovakia away from home with a comfortable 3-1 win
