Celtic vs PSG – Champions League Match Preview

The PSG Globetrotters’ European tour play their first exhibition match of the season as they travel to Glasgow to face Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side. Ok perhaps I should not be that flippant but the Scottish treble winners of last season are going to have their work cut out this evening.

You could make a case that these two clubs are in very similar situations albeit on differing scales. They both look set to run away with their domestic titles while looking to make an impact on Europe. For Celtic first it was all about just making the party and now it will be whether or not they can continue their exploits into the new year.

While for PSG, participation is simply not enough this time around they will looking for one thing and one thing only. That of course being winning the competition for the first time ever. After sending an earthquake across the footballing world when they signed Neymar from Barcelona the aftershocks were felt once the signed Kylian Mbappe form Monaco.

That may only be a loan for this season but with the obligation to buy thereafter it is a very convenient workaround the FFP rules. Something that UEFA are now investigating, so there is the very interesting subplot that PSG may not just end up beating their nearest rivals but the governing body also.

If PSG do go on to win the trophy for the first time ever come next May then many will say that it is a tainted victory especially with the amount of money that has been spent, not only that but they way it has spent also. People may cry foul but looking at the squad that has been assembled it does look a very ominous sight indeed.

Both clubs celebrated big victories on Friday night, Celtic made light work of Hamilton Academical with a 4-1 away win, while PSG brushed aside Metz to make it five wins from five as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani all got on the scoresheet.

If PSG are in the mood Tonight it could be a very long evening at Celtic Park, the team from the French capital have already scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, an average of 3.8 per game. There’s no reason to suggest that there will be any less against a side that were undefeated in the SPFL last season.

Celtic undoubtedly raise their game against top class European opposition and I would imagine that tonight will be no different but no matter how many extra percent they give on the field I cannot see anything but PSG coming away with a win.

Here is what social media thinks will happen
