Can Manchester United Snatch Sanches?

Renato Sanches hailed as a young prodigy just 12 months ago when he became the youngest player to play for Portugal in Euro 2016, not only that but he won the tournament’s Young Player award. This was all before a huge move to Bayern Munich had been agreed with the prestigious Golden Boy award to follow also.

But his big money move to Bayern Munich has not perhaps been one that has seen his continue to flourish with game time under current boss Carlo Ancelotti perhaps not as forthcoming as the Portuguese youngster would have wished for in his debut season at the Allianz Arena.

That lack of prominence in Munich has also seen his international career stall somewhat, while Cristiano Ronaldo and company are representing UEFA thanks to their Euro 2016 success in the Confederations Cup, Sanches has just been knocked out of the European Under 21 Championships.

Now there could be the caveat that he would be more beneficial to the Under 21’s hopes of emulating the senior team and therefore it made sense for him to go to Poland rather than Russia but it must be seen as something of a demotion for the talented teenager.

Sanches made 17 Bundesliga appearances for champions Bayern last season but already the hierarchy of the German giants are considering cutting their losses and shifting the player on after just one season. If reports are believed to be true than Manchester United could get their man at the second time of asking.

United were pipped by Bayern last year in the race to acquire Renato Sanches but according to Italian website Calciomercato the Bavarians are ready to offer the Portuguese international to Jose Mourinho for a fee of just 23 million euro.

That would mean Bayern taking a 12 million euro hit on the initial fee that they paid this time last year, you also must not forget that the original deal was with add-ons making the potential total of any transfer as high as 80 million euro.

One thing that needs to be considered is the fact that it was Louis Van Gaal who was in charge of Manchester United when their initial interest for Sanches materialised but at the same time you could quite easily put two and two together and say that they were attempting to buy the player with the appointment of Jose Mourinho in mind.

Therefore if that Portuguese connection is looking to established then this could provide the perfect opportunity in which to bring the player to Manchester albeit 12 months later than planned. After a season for Bayern that did not live up to the hype that the transfer fee bought then perhaps a change of surroundings will allow the player to show what he is capable of.
