Real Football Man All of the Football, All of the time
The final game of this weekend’s Premier League action comes from Turf Moor where Burnley play host to Arsenal and Sean Dyche will be hoping they can cause another upset like they did at home to Liverpool back in August when Arsene Wenger’s men come to town.
Burnley recorded their second home win of the season on Monday when they beat Watford 2-0 and are yet to taste defeat at home and had it not been for Robert Snodgrass’ late free kick when Burnley faced Hull then The Clarets would go into this game with a 100% record at home.
They go into this afternoon’s game sitting 14th in the table but if results go there way they could go as high as 9th such is the current congested nature of those Premier League midtable places but they are certainly going to have their work cut out with the visit of a very in form Arsenal.
Arsenal are still yet to taste defeat since that 7 goal thriller on the opening weekend and they are going from strength to strength with each week that passes. In Midweek a Theo Walcott double was the difference as they recorded their first Champions League win of this campaign but the big headline would have been their 3-0 demolition job of local rivals Chelsea last weekend.
That win certainly raised a lot of eyebrows as Arsene Wenger easily got the better of Antonio Conte. It didn’t quite have the needle of previous Arsenal vs Chelsea encounters but that is probably due to the fact that The Blues were easily put to the sword by The Gunners.
By the time Alexis Sanchez had latched on to Gary Cahill’s error and given the home side the lead then the game was as good as done as Arsenal not only rested on their lead they then went up through the gears and really turned the screw as they raced into an unassailable 3-0 lead and that was something that Chelsea were never going to recover from.
The experiment of Alexis Sanchez playing up front is really starting to pay off as he has now scored in three of their last four league matches. With the Chilean getting goals against Watford, Hull and Chelsea it seems as if Arsene Wenger was fully justified in his decision to have the former Barcelona player spearhead the attack.
Sanchez will once again be charged with that role this afternoon but he won’t be the only threat with Theo Walcott seemingly returning to form and with Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi completing the attacking quartet they really are capable of delivering goals from any of those four.
For Burnley if they are to stay up then their home form is going to have a big bearing on that especially as that where all of their points have come from so far. They certainly can’t rely on home form alone but it could play a massive part in them returning straight back down to The Championship.
That said I think their unbeaten home run ends this afternoon while Arsenal record a 5th straight league win and extend their unbeaten run to 6 matches in the Premier League. If results go their way they could even go as high as second. That remains to be seen but it’s an away win for me.
