Brighton vs West Brom – Premier League Match Preview

Brighton’s start to the Premier League season has not been a particularly good one but then again it is one that is probably not unexpected either, that is due to the fact that they have only earned a solitary point from their opening three matches but perhaps more damming is the failure to score in any of those games.

It was apparent going into the start of the campaign that Brighton were lacking a goalscorer and the worry will be that because they did not manage to land a signing in that department late in the transfer window then this could be a struggle which continues until at least January.

By then there is every danger that it might be too late so they will need to try and not only find goals but try and get as many points on the board in what they will define as achievable fixtures, today they play host to West Brom but even they are going to be no pushovers.

West Brom come into this game on seven points from nine and have only conceded one goal so far this season, the fact that they have only scored three at the other end perhaps tells its own story but ultimately they are grinding out early season results.

With fixtures against Bournemouth, Burnley and Stoke previously to today you could say that the fixture computer has been kind to Tony Pulis’ side but ultimately you can only beat what is in front of you and they have done that on nearly all occasions.

The only blot on their copybook was a 1-1 home draw with Stoke just under a fortnight ago, Ahmed Hegazy who has impressed many in his early season showings especially when he scored the winner against Bournemouth was at fault for Stoke’s equaliser as his shanked clearance fell right in the lap of Peter Crouch.

Still seven points from nine is not to be sniffed at but it will be interesting to see how The Baggies perform when they face a real test against one of the teams that finished in the top seven last season. They will however look to make it 10 points from a possible 12 later today.

Brighton will at least take solace of the fact that they are off the mark this season in terms a point. If you were to offer Chris Hughton a point away at Vicarage Road before the start of the game he would have more than likely taken it.

But as Watford were down to 10 men for the majority of the game due to Miguel Britos getting sent off for an x-rated tackle it almost felt like two points dropped for The Seagulls, especially as they also hit the woodwork twice that afternoon.

West Brom have added to their squad with the likes of Oliver Burke, Kieran Gibbs and elder statesman Gareth Barry joining the West Midlands outfit in the past fortnight and it’s that additional quality that may well seen them over the line today. I’m going for an away win and more misery for Brighton.
