BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 5

Transfer gossip, it is just about everywhere right now a lot of it is just to sell newspapers or get internet clicks. Thankfully with this new series I can save you a trip to the newsagents and the battery on your phone as I once again debunk the latest rumours. Here is Wednesday mornings portion of debunking

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Manchester United’s bid for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, 24, has stalled with the Spanish club upping their valuation of the player to nearly £80m. (Mirror) Bad news for Mourinho and United, is Morata worth £80m perhaps not but the club need a marque signing this summer. That said is the player that will fit the bill

Morata has taken a break from his honeymoon in an attempt to speed up his transfer to Manchester United. (AS) Well yesterday it was reported that his wife had liked the club on instagram, talk about struggling for news

Tottenham are ready to offer Toby Alderweireld, 28, a new deal to tie down the defender who is wanted by Inter Milan. (Daily Mirror) Wanted by and moving to are two totally different things, even if a new contract is not imminent then I cannot envisage Alderweireld swapping Wembley for the San Siro

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe, 34, could be left in limbo with clubs such as West Ham and Bournemouth put off by his financial demands. (Daily Star) In my opinion pay the man what he wants as he will deliver goals, something that West Ham in particularly need

Burnley striker Andre Gray, 26, wants a new contract at the club worth about £100,000 a week but the club say they cannot meet his demands. (Daily Star) Burnley may have to break their wage ceiling for this one, not quite in the chuck money at him example like Defoe but they would be silly to let him leave

Turkish side Fenerbahce are considering a bid for Everton’s 29-year-old winger Kevin Mirallas. (Fanatik via Talksport) This is the equivalent of a Turkish tabloid, so not sure how much mileage this one has

AC Milan have given Manchester United and Chelsea a boost by pulling out of the race to sign Colombia midfielder James Rodriguez, 25, from Real Madrid. (Mundo Deportivo via Metro) Pulling out of the race because they were never likely to win it

AC Milan are interested in signing Arsenal’s 31-year-old France defender Laurent Koscielny. (Metro via Telefoot) Similar to the Alderwiereld rumour above, I cannot see the French international swapping North London for Milan

Championship side Aston Villa will complete the signing of defender John Terry, 34, this weekend when his Chelsea deal runs out. (Daily Mirror) He could still obviously do a job in the top flight but it seems as if Villa are prepared to match his lofty wage demands

Manchester United will still try to sign Monaco midfielder Fabinho, 23, even after recruiting Nemanja Matic, 28, from Chelsea. Jose Mourinho could play Fabinho as a right-back. (Independent) If that does come to light then it is not good news for Antonio Valencia

United’s France forward Anthony Martial, 21, will tell Mourinho he wants to leave Old Trafford, and the club will not stand in his way. (Daily Express) Le enfant Francais’ career is beginning to stall in Manchester, it is almost as if he is becoming yesterday’s news. Will United now cut their losses?

Barcelona have set a 10-day deadline to sign Arsenal’s Spain defender Hector Bellerin, 22, before they turn their attention elsewhere.(Mundo Deportivo – in Spanish) I would put my money on him still be an Arsenal player at the start of next season

Zouma or team-mate Michy Batshuayi, 23, could be sold to Sevilla as part of a deal to bring Spain winger Vitolo, 27, to Stamford Bridge. (Express) It could happen but swap deals rarely take place so if Vitolo is to move to Stamford Bridge, I reckon it would be cash only

Manchester United are keen on Middlesbrough’s Netherlands midfielder Marten de Roon, 26, and believe he could be available for about £8.8m. (Tutto Mercato via Daily Star) Oh look Manchester United are linked with another player

Chelsea, Tottenham, Everton, Leicester, Southampton and Stoke are keen on Ben Gibson, 24, but will have to pay £25m for the Middlesbrough defender. (Daily Star) With the amount of clubs that have been linked with the Defender, someone will pay that amount it just remains to be seen

Spurs are also interested in Southampton’s Portuguese full-back Cedric Soares, 25, but face competition from Barcelona and Juventus. (Daily Mirror) It seems as if we are in the Right Back transfer merry go round, nothing really happens until Dani Alves or Kyle Walker switch clubs

Leicester midfielder Nampalys Mendy, 25, wants to join Bordeaux after struggling to establish himself in England. (L’Equipe – in French) This should come as no real surprise as the task of replacing N’Golo Kante has not been a successful one

Barcelona are furious with former club captain Carles Puyol after a 16-year-old defender he represents, Eric Garcia, decided to walk away from the club to join Manchester City. (Independent) Mes Que Un Awkward
