BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 32

This article is late, very very late. Basically the intro is the same as all the others, you should know how it works by now so lets not wait any longer. Here is tonight’s (which should have been this afternoon’s) serving of transfer gossip debunking

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Everton have made a club-record £40m bid to sign midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, 27, from Swansea. The Iceland international has been left out of the Welsh side’s tour of the United States. (Mirror) A record bid that has subsequently bid refused, Swansea are still holding out for £50m I reckon that £45m will seal the deal in the end

The Toffees and West Ham are a number of clubs looking to sign 23-year-old midfielder Mario Lemina from Juventus. (FootMercato via Express) This is a player who is on the fringes of the first team at Juventus, would he get first team football at Everton perhaps not, would he get it at West Ham more than likely

Norwich winger Jacob Murphy, 22, has turned down a move to Crystal Palace as he is holding out for a move to Newcastle. (Chronicle) A glimmer of good news for Newcastle fans but they are still no nearer landing a player, something needs to happen at St James Park and soon

Bury have rejected a third bid of £500,000 for striker James Vaughan, 28, from Championship side Sunderland. (Bury Times) Sunderland are persistent, I’ll give them that

West Brom and Crystal Palace are interested in signing free agent Bacary Sagna, 34, after the Frenchman was released by Manchester City. (L’Equipe via Birmingham Mail) Could be a decent enough signing but it’s an easy payday for Bacary Sagna

The Eagles are close to signing 20-year-old Ajax defender Jairo Riedewald for £8m, despite a late bid from Everton. (De Telegraaf via Croydon Advertiser) If they can keep Everton at bay it will be the second new signing for Frank De Boer in quick succession, that is if they can keep Everton at arms length

Stoke have rejected loan moves for club-record signing Giannelli Imbula, 23, as they look to recoup the £18.3m they spent on the Frenchman. (Stoke Sentinel) Never really worked out for Stoke’s record signing did it, it looks like a permanent deal is the next step for Imbula but there seems to be a lack of suitors right now
