BBC Gossip Column Debunked – Issue 28

After that monster sized serving of transfer gossip debunking earlier this morning I hope you’ve left some room for the lunchtime portion of rumours, time to put the comfy trousers on and dive straight in.

Gossip in standard font, my thoughts are in bold

Tottenham could hijack Leicester’s move for Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho, 20, in order to speed up 27-year-old England defender Kyle Walker’s move to Etihad Stadium. (S*n) Don’t by The S*n but as it’s a Spurs related rumour I will entertain it, there could be an element of logic to this but for Iheanacho the whole point of his departure is to get regular first team football something that he would not get at Tottenham, therefore a move to Leicester still looks the more likely

The Foxes are ready to off-load striker Islam Slimani, 29, for a cut-price fee in order to fund their move for Iheanacho, but West Bromwich will not be renewing their interest in the Algeria forward. (Birmingham Mail) Should Iheanacho move to Leicester than Slimani will soon become surplus to requirements and he will slip further down the pecking order, a departure for the Algerian looks a realistic prospect

Newcastle United-linked defenders Kieran Gibbs, 27, and Carl Jenkinson, 25, have been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man pre-season squad for their tour to China and Australia. (Newcastle Chronicle) That may well give Newcastle some confidence but they are struggling to land any targets this summer

Burnley are the latest club to show an interest in Sunderland defender Lamine Kone, 28. The Ivory Coast centre-back is seen as a replacement for Michael Keane, who recently joined Everton. (Sunderland Echo) Kone was impressive in his first season at Sunderland but failed to reach the same levels as the Black Cats were relegated. Could still be a solid signing though especially as they look to replace Michael Keane.

Swansea midfielder Jack Cork, 26, has joined up with Burnley at their Irish training camp in order to complete his £10m move from the Welsh side. (Mirror) And this would be another one for The Clarets
