Bayern Munich vs Atletico Madrid – Match Preview

Bayern Munich find themselves with a 1-0 deficit to overturn if they are to progress to a 3rd Champions League Final in 5 seasons, Atletico Madrid stand in their way and they themselves will be looking to reach the final for the 2nd time in 3 seasons.  Something has to give Tonight as these two sides face off at The Allianz Arena.

Atletico have the advantage thanks to Saul Niguez’s fantastic goal last week at The Vicente Calderon. His mazy dribble left the Bayern defence all ends up before he slotted his shot home in off a post and much to the delight of the home fans.

Bayern were caught cold that night and will have to start quick out of the blocks tonight if they are to reverse that first leg lead of Atletico’s. They failed to win the Bundesliga title at the weekend as they were held by Moenchengladbach at home. A result of a similar nature would also scupper their hopes of a treble.

A clean sheet for Atletico Madrid will see them through to the final. It’s exactly what they did on Saturday as they edged past Rayo Vallecano thanks to substitute Antoine Griezmann’s winner. That all important goal but them top of La Liga for a couple of hours before Barcelona won away at Real Betis.

1-0 usually seems to be the order of the day for Atletico at home but that form doesn’t quite travel as well and with the swathes of talent at Pep Guardiola’s disposal this evening you get the feeling that Bayern definitely have at least a goal in them.

It would be easy for Diego Simeone to plan tonight with a clean sheet in mind but he has said he’s not aiming for his side to sit back and they will look to get Bayern on the counter attack and snatch an all important away goal. If that was to happen Bayern would have to score 3 times Tonight.

That will be the all important aspect in my opinion. If Bayern don’t concede then I can see them advancing but if Atletico score I’m not sure Bayern can they go on and get 3. That said I still think Bayern will win and also progress to the final. 1-0 would mean extra time and perhaps penalties, I’ll go for a 2-0 Bayern win.

  1. Bayern Munchen will meet Atletico Madrid in today’s game played at Allianz-Arena Stadium. In their last meeting, Atletico Madrid won the match with 1:0. I wonder if Guardiola’s team prepared us with a surprise for today. Based on the past results of the two teams, I would expect for Bayern Munchen to perform well during this meeting and win this game. It should be interesting to see if Thomas Müller will score during this match as he has a good average in terms of goals scored / match.
