It may be slightly quiet on the Tottenham transfer front at present but there could be something resembling some light at the end of the tunnel with the news that the looking to acquire the services of Barcelona’s 19 year old midfielder Alena.
With the youngster yet to sign a new deal with the Catalan giants, Mauricio Pochettino is prime position to snare the player who has already sampled first team action back in April 2017. Alena’s current deal comes to an end in 12 months time and with only verbal promises regarding his future at the Nou Camp he is looking for reassurances.
New Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde is of the believe that a new contract should be offered in the near future as the club looks to make sure another of their young talents is not cherry picked by the cream of their European rivals. That is because Jordi Mboula left for Ligue 1 champions Monaco last weekend and obviously the Barca hierarchy want to make sure there is not a talent drain over the course of the transfer window.
With Barcelona yet to offer anything resembling a contract in the direction of Alena, it means that he could be available for as little as 3m Euro but only for the next few days. That is because of the fact that as Alena enters the final year of his contract on July 1 his release clause would then rise quite substantially from 3m Euro to 12m Euro.
Therefore if Maurico Pochettino is to act then he is going to have to act quickly otherwise, he will be looking at a 300% rise in any potential transfer fee. An increase that would more than likely deter the Argentine from trying to proceed in a deal. It looks like if something is to happen between the Barcelona midfielder and Tottenham then it needs to happy by the end of the week.
