Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona in less than 3 minutes

Barcelona found themselves top of La Liga for a few hours at least yesterday after edging past Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon. Encounters between these two sides are always tight and this one proved to be no different as Barcelona once again left it late to snatch all three points.

Last week it a 2-1 home win over Leganes with Lionel Messi bagging a late winner and yesterday it was a 2-1 win away with Lionel Messi doing the same feat. A tight first half failed to bring about any goals but the game thankfully sparked into life after the restart.

Rafinha opened the scoring for the Catalan giants just after the hour. Luis Suarez who earlier had a goal ruled out for offside, hit a pinball type effort which bounced off of two Atletico defenders before finally falling at the feet of Rafinha who was then left to prod home from close range.

But Barcelona’s lead would only last for a number of minutes as Diego Godin once again scored against Barcelona. It was his goal that secured their league title back in 2014 at the Nou Camp and he was once again on hand to head home on 70 minutes to make it 1-1.

Again though there was to be a final twist in the tale and again it was to involve Lionel Messi. The dimunituve Argentine pounced in the 86th minute to win the game for the champions after his initial effort was blocked by defender Stefan Savic.

Barcelona are not necessarily blowing teams away as of late but they are at least grinding out results which continues to add pressure on Real Madrid and eases it slightly on Luis Enrique although his managerial status is far from confirmed for next season.

Here is all you need to know from yesterday
