Last season’s Champions League runners up Atletico Madrid have already lost ground on their two nearest La Liga rivals after being held at home by promoted side Alaves. The game may have ended 1-1 but the action didn’t come until very late.
New signing Kevin Gamiero thought he broke Alaves resolve with a 93rd minute goal penalty on his debut but the late drama didn’t end there as Alaves managed to find the net with a 95th minute equaliser through Manu Garcia.
Definitely two points dropped for Diego Simeone’s side but there is still plenty of football to be played in Spain so no need for the white handkerchiefs but they will no doubt be ruing that late Alaves leveller.
