Arsenal vs Aston Villa – Match Preview

Arsenal go into the final day of the season knowing that they could finish anywhere between 2nd and 4th place depending on results this Afternoon. They play host to Aston Villa who after a miserable season will look to try and and restore a modicum of pride for the travelling fans who make the journey to The Emirates this afternoon.

Both clubs have had to witness their fans making in game protests as of late although for widely varying reasons. An element of the Arsenal fanbase have been very vocal in the criticism of Arsene Wenger but it must be said that it’s not a majority while Villa fans have been incredibly forward in voicing their displeasure  at the way that the club has been run this season

Arsenal are looking to overtake their arch rivals Tottenham on the last day of the season and stop the white half of North London from finishing above them for the first time in 21 years. A win for Arsenal and defeat for Tottenham is the only way in which this can happen but stranger things have happened on the last day of the season and especially involving these two sides

Last time out Arsenal bounced back twice to get a share of the points away at Manchester City and keep the race for 2nd place alive. Although it came a cost with Danny Welbeck now being ruled for 9 months due to a knee injury. A big blow for Arsenal as well as England and a injury that will mean Wenger will have to source an additional striker in the Summer

One player who could make a start today is Jack Wilshere. He has played very little this season and with the European Championships on the horizon he could certainly do with some game time if he is to cement his place in Roy Hodgson’s final 23 which is named sometime Tomorrow

As for Villa, they showed some form of resilience last weekend at home to Newcastle but without taking too much away from Villa, their opposition that day was pretty toothless and it sort of showed while Rafa Benitez’s side will be joining in The Championship next season. But can Eric Black use that point as a platform to build on for Today.

To be honest I can’t see that being the case and you would be silly to bet on anything other than an Arsenal win Today. That win will secure at least 3rd place they will then have to focus on matters in the North East to see if Newcastle can do them a favour. A home win for me.
