Could Aleksandar Mitrovic Be Fenerbahce Bound?

Newcastle fans will no doubt anticipating there return to the Premier League this season but one man who may well be not having another tilt at the top flight is that of Alexsandar Mitrovic. The Serbian was sent off on the final day of the 2015/16 season during Newcastle’s incredible 5-1 win over Tottenham but that may well be the last we see of him at the highest level of English football.

That is because the misfit striker is being offered to Turkish club Fenerbahce as Newcastle look to offload the temperamental 22 year old. After being signed for £16m the Magpies hierarchy are prepared to make a small lose on that outlay but this is where any potential deal could struggle to be completed.

Newcastle are prepared to accept a fee of £13m in regards to the sale of Mitrovic but Fenerbahce are reluctant to pay that much and would prefer to sign the Serbian forward on a season long loan first with then a view to a permanent move should his time in the Turkish SuperLig be successful.

It seems as if this is something of an issue for Newcastle as although there are some suitors ready to take the risk on Mitrovic they want to lessen the gamble first by not spending any money up front first. Ultimately it will depend to just how keen Newcastle are to move him on.

Should they be adamant to collect a fee for Mitrovic then any potential loan deal will be a non-starter by should Rafa Benitez be backed in the transfer market enough that he is not necessarily reliant on any additional funds from sales then it does give Fenerbahce a glimmer of hope.

Another factor could well be if Newcastle make a breakthrough in signing another striker first. They have been recently linked with Enzo Perez of Valencia with the fee reported to be around £8m. If Rafa Benitez can add more firepower to his ranks then Mitrovic will full further down the pecking order.

After a relatively disappointing return from his one and only season in the Premier League back in 2015/16 when he failed to hit double figures in terms of goals, life in the Championship was no better as he only found the net 4 times from 25 appearances.

With such a paltry return on the £16m spent on his signature from Anderlecht you do have to wonder just how he fits into Rafa Benitez’s plans for this upcoming season. The St James Park exit door is certainly open, it is now just a case of whether or not he can be pushed through it.
