3 players that could be joining Liverpool this month

With Jurgen Klopp now being in the Liverpool hot seat for other a year now it would be fair to say that he has had enough time to make the squad that he inherited from Brendan Rodgers his own, but that said many critics will ask is it a squad that has enough depth to go all the way in a race for the Premier League title.

After making 11 changes in the F.A. Cup 3rd Round for the home tie against Plymouth it was slightly embarrassing for Klopp that the League Two outfit managed to hold them to a goalless draw and subsequently earn a replay at Home Park.

The one thing it showed was that perhaps the kids aren’t alright and if Liverpool are to push Chelsea close this season they may well have to get a few more faces in during the January transfer window to bolster the squad going into the final few months of the campaign.

With that in mind, let’s now take a look at three players who could be moving to Anfield in January

Jose Fonte

One area of the pitch that Jurgen Klopp will have identified as an area of possible improvement is that of centre back and with the ongoing club vs country row regarding Cameroon’s Joel Matip it’s a concern that has become even more pressing.

But that could very well be alleviated by the capture of Jose Fonte from Southampton, for Saints fans it’s all too familiar story as the Portuguese international could very well be the next player to swap the South Coast for Merseyside.

With Fonte handing in a transfer request earlier in the month and not featuring in the Saints EFL Cup Semi-Final win over Liverpool last week it seems as if the 33 year old’s days at St Mary’s are numbered but it might not be Fonte who is the most important person in this potential transfer move.

That’s because with Liverpool looking to offload Mamadou Sahko for £20m he has subsequently been of interest to Claude Puel, as the Frenchmen looks to life without his club captain. Therefore the two clubs may very well look to engineer a swap deal that benefits both parties.

Geoffrey Kondogbia

If one French international in the form of Mamadou Sahko is to leave the club as expected then there could be another one enter just as quickly. That is because Liverpool are believed to be monitoring the situation of Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The 23 year old who currently plays for Inter Milan is highly rated by many of Europe’s big clubs and it’s almost a surprise he has not made a move to the Premier League prior to this but with strong interest from Liverpool that could be all set to change.

Even at his relatively young age he has had somewhat of a nomadic career with spells at both Sevilla and Monaco to go along side his current stint at the San Siro. But the move to Italy has not quite gone as well as excepted for Kondogbia as he has struggled to make a real impact in Serie A.

The player who has represented France at every age level possesses a physical side to his game that would suit the Premier League very well, with many likening him to compatriot Patrick Vieria. While the comparisons may not end there, it’s well documented that Vieria did not truly blossom until swapping Italy for England, perhaps the exact same career trajectory will take place for this Liverpool transfer target.

Quincy Promes

One of the names that Liverpool have been repeatedly linked with as of late is that of Quincy Promes of Spartak Moscow. The 25 year old who can either play as a midfielder or a winger and it’s his lightning fast pace which is catching the attention of Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutch international Promes has won 14 caps for his country and scored on two occasions and has been plying his trade in Moscow for the past 2 and a half seasons, while it that time his name has been a near permanent fixture at the top of the Russian Premier League scoring charts.

With 37 goals in 73 appearances for Spartak he is finding the net every other game and if he could bring that goal ratio to Liverpool it could give them a massive boost as they look to chip away at the lead that Chelsea have amassed at the top of the table.

But it’s his versatility that could be the most useful attribute of all with the Dutchman able to play in all of the attacking positions. Should Liverpool be able to bring Promes to Merseyside then it would allow Klopp to rotate some of his star players who are perhaps showing signs of fatigue after such a blistering start to the season.
