2017/18 Premier League Predictions – Week 1 (Review)

The first weekend of the 2017/18 Premier League is now done and dusted and if every week is like the one just passed then I think we are going to be in for something special. It’s been a breathtaking three days of action and now it is time to see how my opening set of predictions fared.

Friday

Arsenal vs Leicester – Arsenal Win YES

Saturday

Watford vs Liverpool – Liverpool Win NO

Chelsea vs Burnley – Chelsea Win NO

Crystal Palace vs Huddersfield – Crystal Palace Win NO

Everton vs Stoke – Everton Win YES

Southampton vs Swansea – Draw YES

West Brom vs Bournemouth – Draw NO

Brighton vs Manchester City – Manchester City Win YES

Sunday

Newcastle vs Tottenham – Draw NO

Manchester United vs West Ham – Manchester United Win YES

A bang average 5 out of 10, mid table mediocrity in the first week. Not the most awe inspiring start it must be said, the obvious coupon buster was Chelsea’s defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge, I but the bookies were absolutely delighted with that result

While Liverpool killed off any hopes of a clean sweep after conceding that late goal at Vicarage Road at Saturday Lunchtime, although credit has to go to Arsenal for at least not making Saturday a dead rubber after their win at Leicester on Friday night.

My own pessimistic nature cost me a correct prediction at St James’ Park, while Huddersfield upset the apple cart at Selhurst Park with their stunning 3-0 win. West Brom vs Bournemouth could have gone either way really, so no need to really dwell on that one.

As like last season there will be the running total throughout, it’s pretty simple this week as 5 out of 10 gives me a strike rate of 50%. Not quite the start the board would have wanted, I hope to pick things up next time around. The predictions for Week 2 will follow on Thursday, so keep an eye out for those.
