Crystal Palace vs Leicester a few quick thoughts

  • Leicester edge a step closer to the Premier League title, it’s now an 8 point gap between themselves and Tottenham
  • I think that it’s in terms of the title. I know Tottenham play today but an 8 point gap is massive and at this point of the season you want points on the board and make the other teams do the hard work.
  • Four 1-0 wins out of five is incredible for Leicester but I guess it’s all about wins and not performances at this stage of this season. They may not have the same all out attack attitude that they did in the first half of the campaign but they are doing exactly what they need to do right now and with their momentum you just can’t see them dropping enough points to be caught
  • Before they went ahead yesterday against Crystal Palace they had their backs to the wall and Palace were arguably the better side
  • But Leicester took their chance and from then on never looked back . Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez combining well to put Claudio Ranieri’s side in front. Although Vardy’s goals may have dried up he is doing the next best thing by making them
  • It was a resolute defensive performance by Leicester and although they had a late late scare when Damien Delaney volleyed onto the bar it was another performance worthy of a Premier League Champion
  • As for Palace and Alan Pardew it’s only the F.A. Cup which is papering over the seemingly widening cracks. Still no win in 2016 in the League and now 13 games without a win. If they lose to Norwich after the Easter International Break they could find themselves in a real relegation fight.
  • They didn’t play too bad yesterday but they are seemingly to reliant on the pace of Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie. It’s almost too obvious in how Palace are going to play, they’ve been found out
  • Also Emmanuel Adebayor was ineffectual as a lone Striker and Palace looked more dangerous once he was hauled off and they shifted to a 4-3-3 formation
  • The pressure is certainly on Alan Pardew, it’s seems as if history is repeating itself. He went on a terrible run without a win before departing Newcastle and he’s in the midst of one again
  • Palace fans used to look at Newcastle fans with derision but now surely they must think they’ve been sold a dud
  • There are now murmurs of “Pardew Out” and it’s probably only the fact that he’s a club legend and a return to Wembley which is keeping him in the job at present
  • Although this run would have certainly done his own stock no help, just to think he was being touted as the next England Manager before Christmas. Right now he couldn’t seem further away from that Job
